Our client, a leading medical device manufacturer, has instructed us to search for a Direct Materials Buyer. The chosen candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of direct material suppliers and support its manufacturing operation. This is an 18 month contract role.

Duties:

• Purchase all direct materials in order to support the Production operations and spare parts service, in line with business requirements.
• Maximise the use of the Supplier scheduling, lean supply model to minimise inventory levels.
• Liaison with suppliers to ensure continuity of material supply in order to avoid production interruption, in accordance with purchasing and inventory policies.
• Provide timely updates to internal stakeholders of issues affecting supply and recovery plan details.
• Carry out structured problem-solving techniques (e.g. A3) to ensure root causes are addressed and corrective actions are effective.
• Monitor key metrics in the areas of supplier delivery, inventory, cost, quality and service which clearly demonstrate performance against targets.
• Drive supplier corrective actions where performance falls below agreed target levels.
• To make sure that all Supplier and Material master data is both maintained and kept up to date to ensure the integrity of the Planning and Purchasing processes.
• Input into the site cross-functional process for the evaluation and selection of new suppliers.
• Design and implementation of cost reduction ideas, including support for part transfer (re-sourcing) projects.

Skills \ Education:

• BA degree in Business, Procurement, Supply Chain Management or Engineering is essential.
• 3-5+ years’ experience (Direct Materials) preferably in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment.
• Previous experience of dealing with a broad range of international direct material supplier organisations is a plus.
• Must have a proven commercial mind-set and the ability to assess and manage.
