The systems engineer will specialise in the area of systems engineering, test development and performance monitoring both at sub module and final instrument level where a high proportion of the tests use liquid reagents and standards.

An aptitude for technology integration with experience in a significant subset of the key technologies involved in modern medical device instrumentation such as biochemistry, Immuno chemistry, fluidics, pneumatics, molding, electro mechanics, software, databases, electronics, optics, machining technology etc is required.

The Systems Engineer acts as a technical lead and key decision maker in supporting current instrument install base and manufacturing of medical diagnostic instrumentation with a bias towards bio-chemistry and immunoassay instruments.

Experience in leading cross functional teams is a big plus. Problem solving capabilities as well as an ability to identify and delver on cost \ time saving initiatives would be of great benefit.

The Role

  • Key member of a team who provides technical support to field service, manufacturing and test of medical instrumentation product platforms in a low volume, high complexity and highly regulated technology environment.
  • Design and validate technical solutions to enhance product and process capability with a focus on test processes but overlapping to assembly. Areas include:- wet test specification and analysis, system test design, test system support, SPC, test performance characterization including test coverage, calibration, field service support and customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze problems to root cause with a structured approach and fully develop solutions, including all associated planning of engineering changes and design validation activity.
  • Incumbent will be considered a local process owner, be able to develop and manage systems of metrics for field service, manufacturing and projects. Complete systems analysis and develop projects to drive continuous improvement in key metric’s in alignment with Lean, statistical knowledge, Design Robustness Principles and A3 Problem Solving Principles. Incumbent may be a member of several project teams working with Manufacturing Engineering, CPE, Q.A. R&D, Service and Continuous Improvement.
  • Significantly contribute to product and process design initiatives through all design stage phases (problem definition, containment, setting target condition, root cause, solution design, validation, implementation, monitoring on the production floor).
  • Participate in the continuous development of the quality system, including standard operating procedures (SOP’s), workflow development, product and process validations coupled with the ability to write concise technical reports.
  • Support new product introduction and technology transfer initiatives from design through to maturation of product and process. Familiar with Product Lifecycle Management control systems for configuration control.
  • Ability to follow process to complete Risk Assessments and assist in trouble shooting field complaints.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience for this role:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical Scientific or Engineering discipline (Biochemistry, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electronic Medical Engineering). Qualification in alternative disciplines may be considered if balanced by relevant experience. Work experience in the medical technology, laboratory or pharmaceutical industry may be relevant.
  • Significant level of scientific and engineering experience is required (up to 3 years). A bias towards bio-chemistry and assays would be an advantage.
  • A cross technology capability is desired with a balance between science based analysis and practical engineering in an instrument design and manufacturing environment. Structured analysis skills with experience in complex technical trouble shooting.
  • Excellent communications skills with ability to write technical and quality documents in a clear and structured manner , (procedures, verification plans, reports)
  • Strong statistical and data analysis experience is required. Knowledge of different statistical packages, capability analysis, statistical process control and DOE.
