Software Engineer – Contract

Our Client, a multinational medical device manufacturer, requires a Software Engineer to assist their informatics engineering team.  This position will play a central role in the Specification, Risk Analysis and Verification of software releases and deliverables for a medical Middleware Solution. The role will report to a Principal Engineer and will be a member of the site level Software Engineering Team.

  • The incumbent must have the ability to structure, plan, prioritize and deliver their own work and that of a team for larger projects in an Agile development environment.
  • Practical experience with a significant subset of keys software development lifecycle stages including feasibility, requirements generation, safety risk analysis, verification and validation is required.
  • Ability to contribute to problem solving and detailed technical investigations is required.
  • Experience with server class hardware, networking, Windows Operating Systems and security is also required.
  • The role will require the incumbent to interface with internal cross-functional teams including Engineering, Service, Quality and Product Management as well as external OEM software vendors.
  • Flexibility is required regarding working out of normal hours and possibly foreign travel on occasion, to support the achievement of objectives.

 

Areas of responsibility:

  • Execute software projects using Agile (Scrum) methodologies including project planning and interfacing with OEM software vendor. Ensure that projects are clearly scoped, managed, delivered on time, and positioned for long-term success.
  • Develop detailed software requirements for new software versions including definition of complex workflows that are required by our customers to be supported by the combination of Middleware, Automation and LD Instruments
  • Perform detailed and comprehensive Safety Risk Analysis of requirements, mitigations and issues that impact Middleware and connected systems.
  • Participate in testing activities for new software releases including review of new Test designs and execution of test cases for new features and/or issues.
  • Perform detailed investigation of Field Issues – determine true root cause(s), probability of occurrence and severity and provide objective evidence for these.
  • Represent Atellica Data Manager R&D to other parts of the LD organization and demonstrate knowledge of Siemens’ business practices and processes.

 Qualifications/Experience/Skills for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical discipline (Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Informatics, IT Technology) with 5 year’s relevant engineering experience. Bachelor’s degree in alternative disciplines will be considered if balanced by relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of Clinical laboratory information systems -Middleware data management, LIS, Connectivity management etc.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Excellent communications skills – written and verbal are required.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in computer networking, security, Server class hardware and operating systems is required.
  • Practical experience in technical requirements creation.
  • Practical experience in testing frameworks and automated testing strategies.
  • Analytical problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.
  • Experience in agile Software Development environment using Scrum, including experience in a Scrum master role is desirable.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Perl etc.) is desirable
  • Administration expertise in at least one leading virtualization technologies i.e. VMware, Citrix is desirable.
