The Compliance Officer will work within the global Risk and Compliance team to provide comprehensive risk and compliance support. This is a mid-level role and day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Customer due diligence (“CDD”) tasks in line with the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 on all existing and prospective clients of the firm.
Review and update the Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”) / Counter Terrorism Financing (“CTF”) / Financial Sanctions (“FS”) and CDD Manuals, continuously maintaining and enhancing the regulatory reporting matrices and annual monitoring programme to ensure the firm continues to meet all Irish law and Law Society of Ireland requirements, while fully adhering to the Group’s risk and compliance requirements.
Ensure that all Partners and staff are aware of the contents of the firm’s risk and compliance documentation, their personal compliance obligations, and other relevant procedures.
Provide risk and compliance induction training, lobbying training and annual AML/CTF/FS training to all Partners and relevant staff.
Investigate any Politically Exposed Persons (“PEP”), sanction or criminal screening findings on existing or prospective clients and determine whether any matches could be considered positive results and escalate accordingly.
Ensure that all CDD documents are filed and maintained appropriately including refresher reviews of existing client files.
Provide ongoing advice, assistance and guidance to staff for routine customer due diligence activities as required.
Report weekly to the Head of Risk and Compliance and prepare a monthly compliance report for his attention.
Respond to Partner and staff queries in a timely manner and immediately escalate any issues to the Head of Risk and Compliance.
Review news articles to determine if there is any negative client exposure and report any concerns to the Head of Risk and Compliance.
Complete other duties as may be required.
Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate will be a team player who is capable of influencing all levels of staff. They will be highly organised with very strong attention to detail. The individual will have excellent communication skills with the ability to interact at a senior level with the confidence to engage effectively and credibly with busy individuals. A high level of competency and the ability to handle a challenging and varied workload is essential. The individual’s skills and experience will include:
A degree or advanced diploma in law, accounting, risk, compliance or a related field.
A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience, ideally in a law/professional services firm.
Excellent project, organisational and time management skills.
Excellent skills in all relevant MS office packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
